You will part of a small team that has built and scaled a website that attracts millions of people, has over 2 billion monthly page-views and is considered one of the world’s largest internet forums. We are continually growing and are hence challenged daily to scale our infrastructure.
An ideal candidate must be highly motivated, have a keen interest in Internet technology, a love of open source software (WE DO!), and a fanatical attention to detail. Not only will you work to directly influence infrastructure design and implementation, you’ll work along side our developers to help improve our system design, security and user experience.
Candidates with prior experience working on a high profile, large scale consumer facing websites will be highly valued.
• 5+ years of experience with Linux system administration. (Debian or RHEL preferred).
• Deep and current knowledge of all aspects of MySQL, including hardware sizing, replication, tuning, query profiling, and other DBA duties.
• Strong Networking experience – TCP/IP, Subnets, routing and switching. Must be able to troubleshoot at the packet level.
• A deep understanding of traffic load balancing using either software or hardware load balancers.
• Ability to script in a high level scripting language (Perl and bash are preferred). Should have a strong foundation in OO Design.
• Strong and current working knowledge of modern x86 based server hardware.
• Strong understanding of software and hardware RAID with Linux.
• Experience building Linux kernels and troubleshooting kernel issues.
• Experience with high traffic web servers running apache or lighttpd.
• Experience with DNS setup and management.
• Kernel and application performance tuning and profiling.
• Experience using Source code version control software (subversion, git, cvs).
• Experience with collocated servers.
• Willing to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
Desired but Optional Skills:
• Knowledge of OpenBSD and PF.
• Experience with virtualization software like Xen, VMware, or KVM.
• Knowledge of IPMI.
• Experience with MogleFS, Perlbal or memcached.
• Experience programming with C or PHP.
• Experience with a PHP object cachers (IonCube, Zend, eAccelerator).
• Experience working with object oriented Perl, Mason, Catalyst and mod_perl.
• Experience with RT (Request Tracker), Bugzilla, or any other open source issue tracking software.
• Experience with Cisco/Juniper/Foundry/HP networking hardware and BGP4, OSPF, ISIS and other routing protocols.
• Experience with Trixbox (asterisks) and VOIP.
• Experience with open source monitoring software (nagios, cacti, etc…).
• Experience with WIFI and access points.
