The Sr. Linux Systems Engineer will be a strategic thinker who is capable of influencing others through involvement in processes and decision making. One who looks at business situations with a view to the future and an astute understanding of most critical/highly leveraged elements.

This individual will lead a team that is responsible for the installation, configuration and maintenance of all corporate Linux environments. Ensure the stable operation of the in-house Linux servers, software systems and network connections. Implementation and administration of Enterprise Storage across multiple platforms. Ensure the day-to-day operations and security of the in-house computer systems, servers, and network connections to include checking server and firewall logs, scrutinizing network traffic, establishing and updating virus scans, and troubleshooting. Verifying and validating user creation and access rights implemented by the Sys. Admin. analyzing and resolving security breaches and vulnerability issues in a timely and accurate fashion, and conducting user activity audits where required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
• Recommends the design and implementation of application and infrastructure solutions that provide a balance between risk management and business needs.
• Provides support and guidance in areas of security architecture design, operations management, business risk assessment, and policy development as needed. This includes strategic security planning expertise and guidance to various technology groups and architecture functions.
• Researches, evaluates, designs and recommends new or improved security software or devices.
• Supports production, development and QA environments.
• Responsible for EMC & NetApp Storage Infrastructure.
• Support and administrator of Linux environment.
• Responds to level 3 help desk tickets related to Linux issues.
• Support of Cisco ASA firewalls and F5 BIG-IP Load Balancer
• Backup Operations: Veritas Netbackup Enterprise Server Backup Policy Management
• Supports production, development and QA Storage environments.
• Maintains and improve the consistency of Storage infrastructure.
• Proactive in Storage monitoring and performance across mission critical systems.
• Provides technical assistance and mentoring to other team members. Coach and perform knowledge transfer.
• Design and implement on and offsite high availability solutions and monitoring to meet all server & security requirements.
• Participation in rotating on-call, night and weekend support schedule.
EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of five (5) years of Linux administration experience required.
• Experience with the installation process, fluency in Linux Administration and managing user accounts.
• Must be well versed in manipulating directories and files and maintaining permissions to support production processes.
• Strong understanding of EMC and NetApp hardware and software architectures.
Minimum of two (2) years of EMC and NetApp Storage administration experience required.
• Experience with SAN Switching Fabrics / protocols: McData, Cisco, Fiber Channel, Fiber Channel over Internet Protocol (FCIP), iSCSI
• Experience with Cisco ASA firewalls and F5 BIG-IP a strong plus. DNS, NFS and experience with Cisco Switches and Routers a strong plus.
• Experience with web and application server technology like Apache and JBoss.
• Scripting in Korn shell, Bourne shell and Perl a strong plus.
• Red Hat or Solaris certification a plus.
